An Examination of Actual Condition and Knowledge on Dental Hygienist´s Radiation Safety Control

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : This paper is to strive for the safety of patient, their family and a participant from radiation, to cope with rules of the diagnostic radiation safety control forcing dental hygienist by making an analysis of actual condition and degree of knowledge, there are a dental radiographic unit, sign of area, required conditions, etc.
Materials and Methods : This examination made the 30 places of medical institution objects, equipped with a dental radiographic unit among the dental institutions in Seoul and all the central area, analyzed and calculated in tetanus of percent respectively after investigation whether they have knowledge of the results of the safety control or not, periodical is done or not and actual condition of sign of area, wearing lead apron and position of the examiner.
Results : The results of this examination were as follows:
1) Knowledge on the rules of the diagnostic radiation safety control was 73.3 %, and 26.7% or not.
2) The places which is observed the rules of the sign of protective area were only 10 %, not ever 50 %.
3) Possessing and wearing of lead apron was 90 %, 26.7 % respectively.
4) Dental hygienist of the examiners was mostly as 50 %.
5) Periodical inspection for a dental radiation exposure unit was done about 10 %.
Conclusion : Judging from this results, dental hygienist who -account for 50 percent of the examiners as well as students of department of dental hygiene have to see in a new light and practice on radiation safety control. if you do that, safety of patients, their family and a participant will be protected.
